ALEX APPAH

Building a Thriving Community

Hello!

I’m Alex Appah and I’m running for ANC3F02!

2020 has been a challenging year. We need to work together as friends and neighbors to thrive in these times. The civil unrest, the uncertainty of Covid-19, and the inequity that have underpinned our communities are coming into full view.

I am running for ANC3F02 to build our thriving community, create connections with our neighbors, and to continue to make Van Ness a great place to live. I’m excited to represent you and hope you’ll work with me because you love Van Ness as much as I do.

I’m running for the love of Van Ness!

PLATFORM

ADVOCATING FOR Affordable housing

Advocating for affordable housing is critical to ensuring that our community remains diverse, vibrant and equitable. We need more affordable housing in Van Ness and in D.C. Working in partnership with Ward 3 Vision, our local Housing and Neighborhood Committee and the Mayor’s office will be my top priority.

SUPPORTING LOCAL BUSINESSES

Local businesses are at the heart of our community and many are struggling to thrive. As ANC Commissioner I will continue to support the local business in the Van Ness neighborhood and work to attract additional businesses so the community can dine, shop and (eventually) gather in the Van Ness neighborhood.

environment & Safe streets

As ANC Commissioner I will work on initiatives focused on protecting the local environment. I support creating safe bike lanes and pedestrian walk ways on Connecticut Avenue. In addition, I support ensuring a balance of community needs and pushing forward the planned sewage pipeline to protect Soap Stone Valley.

Sometimes you have to not just dream about what could be—you get out and push, and you pull, and you preach. And you create a climate and environment to get those in high places, to get men and women of goodwill in power to act.

Let's Chat.

Building connections with members of the community is essential to making our neighborhood great. Tell me about thing things you want to see improved in the community. I would love to hear your ideas how to improve Van Ness and how you would like to be involved!
